The
Archives

Pictures, papers and articles from 166 years on the hill.

What This Is

The college has been photographing itself, keeping records and writing about its own history since 1860. Much of that material sits in the Museum on the hillside, in the Gallian, in cupboards in the college office, and in the homes of Old Gallians all over the world. This page is where the digitised part of it lives, and it will grow as more of it is scanned and sent in.

It is deliberately an open archive. If you hold a photograph, a document, a programme, a letter or an article that belongs here, the college would like a copy — see how to contribute at the foot of this page.

Important Events & Occasions

Founders’ Day, prize-givings, parades, commemorations and the moments the college has chosen to mark. The calendar of these occasions is recorded in full on the Commemorations page; photographs and programmes from individual years will be gathered here.

Wanted: programmes, invitations and photographs from Founders’ Days and prize-givings of earlier decades. Anything with a date on it is especially useful.

Old College Records & Documents

Registers, rolls, prospectuses, order-of-service sheets, magazines and official papers. The published record so far:

Wanted: back numbers of the Gallian, old prospectuses, admission registers, house records and any official paper from before 2000. Scans are welcome; originals need never leave your hands.

Articles on the College’s History

Writing about Lawrence College, its founder and its traditions — whether published in the Gallian, in the press, or written for this site.

Wanted: articles, memoirs and press cuttings about the college. If you have written about your years here, or know of a piece published elsewhere, please send it.

Contributed by Old Gallians

Material sent in by Gallians and their families will be published here, with an acknowledgement to whoever contributed it, unless they would rather not be named.

This collection is open and waiting.

Nothing has been contributed yet — this page has only just opened. The first photograph, letter or programme sent in will appear here, credited to the Gallian who sent it.

How to Contribute

The archive grows only because people send things to it. If you hold anything that belongs here, the college would be glad of a copy.

1 Photograph or scan it

A clear photograph taken on a telephone is perfectly good. If you can scan, 300 dpi or better is ideal. Please do not crop or retouch — the margins and the back of a print often carry dates and names.

2 Tell us what you can

Who or what it shows, roughly when, and where it came from. Even “my father, somewhere in the 1950s” is worth having. A guess clearly marked as a guess is more useful than nothing.

3 Send it to the college

By e-mail to info@lawrencecollege.edu.pk, or through the alumni register, which has a message box and takes a photograph. For anything bulky, telephone +92-51-3751001 first.

What happens to it. Originals stay with you — the college only wants a copy. Nothing is published until someone at the college has looked at it. You will be credited unless you ask not to be, and you can ask for anything of yours to be taken down at any time. See our privacy notice.
