Welcome to Lawrence College. This page contains practical information to help new students and their parents prepare for the start of term. Please read it carefully. For questions not covered here, contact the Admissions Office directly. You can for your records.

1. Arrival at College

New students are expected to arrive on the first day of term between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Please do not arrive before 9:00 am as housemasters and domestic staff need time to prepare. 3. Medical Information

All new students must submit a completed medical history form to the school nurse at the Thurley Hospital on the day of arrival. The form will have been provided with your admission pack. If your son has any existing medical condition, allergy, dietary restriction or is on regular medication, this must be declared on the form and discussed with the Medical Officer.

  • In the event of a serious medical emergency, parents will be contacted immediately
  • Regular prescribed medication must be submitted to the school nurse for administration

4. Keeping in Touch

Lawrence College encourages a degree of independence in its students, and this includes adjusting to separation from family. Parents are asked to support this adjustment by not contacting their son excessively during the first weeks of term. Structured communication is available through the following channels:

  • Phone calls: Students may call home on designated evenings and on exeat days. Calls are made from house phones under Housemaster supervision for younger students.
  • Letters: The college strongly encourages letter-writing as part of the Lawrence tradition. Students may write home freely; incoming post is distributed daily.
  • Parents visiting: Visits are only permitted on official exeat days unless arranged in advance with the Housemaster. Please do not arrive unannounced.
  • School update: The college publishes regular updates and news on school-news.html and its Facebook page.

5. The House System

Every student at Lawrence College belongs to one of four houses: Wightwick, Walker, Peake or Wright. House allocation is made by the Principal before arrival and takes into account family connections to a house where applicable. The house is at the centre of boarding life — its dormitories, common rooms and traditions become your son's home for his time at Lawrence College.

Each house is led by a Housemaster and a House Matron. Senior prefects called House Captains and Senior Monitors maintain discipline and support within the house. New students are encouraged to embrace house life and to contribute to their house's tradition of academic, sporting and social excellence.

Read more on the Houses page.
