Gallians achieve historic victory over Aitchisonians in Sports Fixture-2015
Keeping up with the wonderful tradition of Annual Sports Fixture between Aitchison College and Lawrence College, this year the fixtures were played from 16-19 October, 2015. The senior teams of Aitchison College visited Lawrence College while our colts visited Aitchison College.
For the first time in the living memory, the Gallians achieved a historic victory over the Aitchisonians by winning both fixtures in the same year. It was after a long gap of seven years that Gallian Seniors won the five-game-fixture against Aitchisonians. Our seniors won basketball, hockey and athletics, while football was a draw and Aitchisonians won the cricket match. Gallian Colts achieved clean sweep in all games by winning hockey, cricket, football and athletics.
We warmly congratulate our teams, coaches and staff for putting up such splendid display of sporting prowess. We also congratulate Aitchison College teams for putting up a very good display and giving our teams a tough time in all events. We also appreciate their sportsman spirit.
Basketball:
The basketball match was played in the morning of 16th of October. It was an exciting match of the fixture. The Gallians dominated the field right from the start and won the opening match of the fixture with 35 to 19.Yousaf Khan remained the highest scorer.
Hockey:
This was one of the most exciting games of the whole fixture. We took an early lead with a good goal scored by Anees Ranjha. After the restart, Shumail Hayat doubled the lead. Husnain Ahmed, captain of LC XI played very well and led the team in a nice way. The Aitchisonians also played very enthusiastically but failed to score any goal, the final result being 2-0.
Cricket:
In cricket Aitchisonians kept up their tradition of having a very good team. This year we had a good chance to win but could not avail it due to poor fielding.
The Gallians set a target of 145 runs by scoring 144 in 20 overs. It was a fighting score had Gallians not dropped seven catches and let Aitchisonians prove the saying “catches win matches”. Aitchisonians met the target with a loss of 2 wickets. Ehtesham-ul-Haq (son of Inzamam-ul-Haq) remained the highest scorer.
Football:
This game was very close and the result, a draw, was a fair reflection of the balance of power. Aitchisonians were fast and clever and caused us much trouble. The Gallians put up a good display and the defence held firm and sometimes by luck but more often by judgment, kept the raiders out. On the final whistle the honours were even with the score being 1-1.
Athletics:
Here was a clear-cut win for us in the five events being contested. We came first in all the events, including long jump, discus throw, relay race and 800 metre, except 200 metre race.
Sports Event | First Position | School |
---|---|---|
