Syed Mustafa Kamal (SC 2019, Wright House) received Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award by gaining second position in North Pakistan. Mustafa Kamal appeared in O Level Examination of Cambridge University held in June 2019 and scored A* in five subjects and got A Grade in four subjects.

The outstanding performance of Syed Mustafa Kamal is a matter of great satisfaction and pride for the faculty and administration of Lawrence College as well as for the students. We congratulate Mustafa, his parents and teachers for this brilliant success.

We believe this excellent result of Mustafa Kamal will serve as an example for the young Gallians and they will put in their best efforts to win laurels for themselves and their alma mater by producing such results.

Gallians have a strong traditional affiliation with their alma mater even long after passing out from the College and the College also owns its alumni with great affection and consideration. A recent example of this association is the special visit of the Principal to Pakistan Military Academy on 20^th November, 2019. The visit aimed at interacting with the Gallians under training at PMA and knowing about their performance.

The Principal was warmly welcomed by the Commandant PMA, Major General Akhtar Nawaz, in his office. During the meeting, the Commandant thanked the Principal for his visit and appreciated the rare gesture of following up the progress of their alumni. The Principal thanked the Commandant for facilitating the visit.

After meeting with the Commandant in his office, the Principal had a visit of various facilities of PMA. In the afternoon, the Principal met the 13 Gallian cadets over tea and refreshments in the cadets’ mess.  The Principal inquired them about their welfare and encouraged them to work hard with full dedication in order to excel as cadets. He expressed his hope that they will win the sword of honour. The cadets were overjoyed to see the Principal and thanked him for the care and love he has for them.

A special assembly was held in the Senior School to remember the services and life of a legendary old Gallian Mr. Shaukat Nawaz Raja (late) on 20^th November, 2019. The faculty and students of Senior School attended the assembly.

The assembly was conducted by the Deputy Head boy, Wisal Akber. It started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Abdul Aziz from Class X and translation by Salman Javed from Class IX. Sameer Ali from Class VIII presented the ‘Gallian Code of Honour’.

Saad Sakhawat from Class XII highlighted different aspects of the life of Mr. Shaukat Nawaz Raja (late). He said that one of the distinguished old Gallians, Mr. Shaukat Nawaz Raja, was a renowned name in the architectural milieu at home and abroad. He spent 37 years of meritorious service in promotion of architecture. Even after becoming a renowned architect of the country, he always felt pride in being a Gallian. He always cherished the moments he spent at GG and recognized the role of the excellent environment of the College and his teachers in his grooming. Talking of his life at Lawrence College, Mr. Shaukat Nawaz said that his stay at Lawrence College exposed him to an enviable environment; academic, physical and social. Recalling the role of his teachers and the environment of LC, Mr. Shaukat remarked, “Mr. Naseer, our mathematics teacher made wizards out of us. Mr. Hamid Saeed put soul into us. Mr. Walter read Shakespeare, Hardy and Hemmingway to us refining our expression and encouraging us to join the Dramatics Club. Mr. Shaukat would talk of the College premises, he would say, “The campus was itself well planned and a beautiful example of architecture. It inspired me a lot and I was well-versed with the dorms and windows. Our science laboratories were well equiped and we had a good science museum with one of the finest collections of butterflies and swallows. The cool weather and fresh environment ever inspired us to learn ‘to see’, honing our senses of observation, sparking an eternal quest for creative learning.”

Addressing the fellow Gallians, Saad told them that purpose of the gathering, along with remembering a blessed soul, is to make all of them realize that it is the right time to benefit from excellent academic environment of the College in one of the most beautiful campuses of the country. At the end of his speech, he prayed for Mr. Shaukat Nawaz and his high rank in Jannah.

After speech by Saad Sakhawat, dua for Mr. Shaukat Nawaz was offered by Mr. Ahmed Abdullah, Lecturer Senior School.

Islam teaches us the lesson of equality and it is binding upon us to treat every individual of the society equally. The Holy Prophet (SAW), in his last sermon, declared that no man is superior to another on the basis of caste, colour or creed. With the same spirit, Lawrence College arranges a thanksgiving lunch every year for the support staff in order to honour their contribution and services. It also aims at making us realize how these employees serve us throughout the year. The purpose is also to instill the quality of humbleness among ourselves as everybody in this world is equal in the eyes of Allah Almighty. This golden tradition of Lawrence College was set by our worthy Principal five years back.

The Senior School hosted a sumptuous Thanksgiving Lunch to recognize the tireless and most valuable services of the support-staff in the Senior School Mess on November 6, 2019. The event was organized by the Intermediate Class under the guidance of the Vice Principal/Headmaster and the Housemasters.  The lunch was held in the Senior School Dining Hall. Present on the occasion, were the Senior School janitors, peons, gardeners, mess & dorm-bearers, sanitary staff, runners, drivers, security guards, and other on-call attendants. The Gallians of Inter-20, including all the prefects, took pride in serving the support-staff with smiles and caring attitude; translating their worthy Principal’s sublime philosophy of humanism and goodwill into a sound reality.

For the support-staff, it was a very happy occasion; full of cheers, respect, and care. They were served a sumptuous lunch. The Principal thanked the junior staff for their devoted services and expressed his hope that they would continue with the same spirit next year. The support staff also thanked the Principal for encouraging them in such a nice way and recognizing their services.

Through this historic ceremony, the Principal also endeavoured to inculcate into the students, the worth of noble human and Islamic values that go hand in hand. Brushing aside sternly conventional administrative work-ways, the worthy Principal has always advocated and practiced a more embracing and natural administrative panache and aura, where education must not only remain a prerogative of the privileged class, but it must expand its wings also to accommodate, train and refine other people, working side by side with students and teachers at an educational institution. This is the true essence of education that the student community at Lawrence College will stash away as an asset to live a decent life.

Thanksgiving Lunch was served in Prep School Mess to honour junior staff on Monday, 4 November, 2019. It also recognizes the hard work and struggle of the junior staff for the whole year. The Principal, Brig (Retd) Mujahid Alam, graced the ceremony as chief guest.

Ali Zain, the School Prefect, made a speech acknowledging the services of junior staff. He shared that their excellence in curricular and co-curricular activities might not be possible without the support of the junior staff. On behalf of all Gallians of Prep school, Ali Zain also thanked the honourable Principal for starting this new tradition in the near past.

The boys of Junior and Prep School served the lunch to the support staff. Thanksgiving Lunch is an important meal of the year. Thanksgiving lunch is a ‘Token of Thanks’ by the young Gallians for the untiring efforts of junior staff in every area of boarding life.

Thanksgiving Lunch sent a strong message to the Young Gallians to pay even additional respect and regard to junior staff and their services at every level. The Principal appreciated and thanked the junior staff for their work to facilitate the young Gallians.

Principal, Brig. Mujahid Alam (Retd), inaugurated the new block of Wright House, Senior School on 30^th of October, 2019. The event was attended by the heads of the schools, DoS, housemasters, Wright House staff, Admin Staff and the students of Wright House. At the outset of the ceremony, the Principal unveiled the plaque. It was followed by dua by Hafiz Ata-ur-Rehman, Khateeb Senior School Mosque.

After dua, everybody moved to the new Prep Hall. Haider Ali Mirza from Class VIII recited some verses from the Holy Quran translated by Muhammad Ali Waqar from Class VIII. Saleem Haider from Class XII welcomed all the guests to be a part of the inauguration ceremony. He said that inauguration of the new block of Wright House was a historical occasion as it was the first and a wonderful addition of any boarding unit in the house after almost a century. It will surely bring comfort and convenience. He thanked the Principal for all what he had done to facilitate the students.

The Principal, talking to the gathering, expressed his pleasure and congratulated the students and staff of Wright House on addition of such a beautiful new block to their house that is going to help them have improved boarding facilities. He commended the efforts of the College administrative staff and contractor of the building for raising a solid structure that would last for long. He said that it was a great pleasure for him to be a part of the ceremony as it was the opening of new and improved facilities for the students of the house. He advised them to ensure that the building is maintained in a careful manner and remains neat and clean, as it is now, in the years to come.

All Pakistan Inter-Collegiate Bilingual Declamation Contest was held at Lawrence College on 24th of October, 2019. The audience had the opportunity to enjoy powerful speeches of best orators from all over Pakistan. Teams from different educational institutions including Punjab University Lahore, Government College University Lahore, FC College University Lahore, Army Burn Hall College Abbottabad, Cadet College Choa Saiden Shah, Chakwal, Cadet College Palandri, Garrison Cadet College Kohat, Malala Yusafzai Danish School Jand, PAF College Lower Topa, PAF College Sargodha, Military College Jhelum, Military College Murree, Military College Sui and Presentation Convent Murree visited Lawrence College.

The purpose of this competition was to provide the students of participating schools and colleges a forum to express their novel ideas, gain recognition and confidence. It also provided the students and teachers of these institutions an opportunity to come closer, understand each other and learn from each other’s’ experiences. Principal Lawrence College Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd) was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the audience, the Chief Guest, at the very outset thanked all the guest teams for gracing the APDC. He said that he was very happy to be there listening to such wonderful speeches by the young speakers. Advising the students, he said that it is the content of a speech and not the loud voice that matters. He specially congratulated the position holders for showing outstanding performance. He specially felicitated the team of PAF College Sargodha for being the overall winners. He appreciated the standard of the declamation contest and commended the efforts of the organizers for arranging a successful contest.

In the end, the guests were served a sumptuous lunch.

One of the illustrious Gallian, Mr. Amer Khalil, passed away on 22 October, 2019. Mr. Amer was a senior banker and a very talented professional. He has also been a member of the Board of Governors of Lawrence College. He was delivering his lecture in his class at ICMAP Lahore when he got pain in chest. It was that cardiac arrest which proved fatal and Mr. Amer left for the next abode.

Mr. Amer had a loving and kind nature. He was always ready to help anyone whenever and whatever way he could. He had also planned to come to LCGG, in the next week, for counselling of Gallians regarding the fields of finance and accountancy.

The Principal, faculty and Gallians express their sincerest grief to the family and friends of Mr. Amer Khalil. We pray for his forgiveness and high rank in Jannah. May the blessed soul rest in peace.

Annual Sports Fixture between junior teams of Aitchison College Lahore and Lawrence College Murree was held at Aitchison College from 11-13 October, 2019.

On 11 October, in the football match, Gallians outshone Aitchisonians by 2-1. Aitchison College also played very well. In athletics, five events were held on 11 October. Gallians outdid Aitchisonians in almost all the events. The results of athletics are as under:

The cricket match started in the morning of 12 October. LC batted first and gave a target of 105 scores in 20 overs. During the second innings, Aitchisonians chased the target in 18.5 overs and won the match by six wickets, though Gallians played equally well.

On 12 October, a formal dinner was served in honour of the young Gallians. Muhammad Ramish, on behalf of Principal Lawrence College, faculty and Gallians. thanked the Aitchison College administration for such care, love and honour.

In his address, Principal Aitchison College highly appreciated the sportsman spirit of the LC Colts as well as their grooming. Souvenirs were also exchanged on the occasion.

The hockey match was played on Sunday, 13 October, 2019.  It resulted in win of Gallians by 3-2. Aitchison College hockey players also played well.

White Cane Safety Day is celebrated every year on October 15 since 1964. The purpose of observing this day is to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and the important symbol of blindness, the white cane. Celebrating this day is our way of realizing the critical role that the visually impaired people are playing in our society and informing the public about its true significance. 

The day was observed at the Senior School on 15^th of October, 2019. Speeches were delivered in the morning assemblies of all the four houses in order to create awareness among our youth about the rights of the visually impaired people. The speakers emphasized that whenever we see a blind person using a white cane, we should remember that the cane is a tool to safely and independently navigate the environment. They stressed that if we are driving or cycling and see someone using a white cane, we must stop to give that person the right of way and should help them if they need or ask.

Gallians had the opportunity to be engaged in an informative and enlightening talk by Mr. Harris Khalique. Mr. Harris is a poet in Urdu and English, essayist, columnist, and civil society leader. He has eight collections of verse and a book of creative non-fiction behind him. He also won the ‘UBL Literary Excellence Award 2013’ in the category of Urdu poetry for his collection of verse Melay Mein (Urdu). He received the President’s Award for Pride of Performance as an acknowledgement of his services to poetry.

On October 14, 2019, in his talk, Mr. Harris Khalique focused on the moral perspective of life by sharing his personal experiences. He shared his own personal experiences related to ethical values. He related three anecdotes from his life; first related to his Nazra teacher who taught him truthfulness, the second where he learnt team work from his boss and the third when he learnt the lesson of honour and respect from his father. He also shared his views about the importance of language, astronomy and geology.

After the talk by Mr. Harris Khalique, the students asked some pertinent questions which were answered by Mr. Harris in a satisfactory way. The students enjoyed the session a lot.

The young Gallians of Prep School went on a two days trip to Abbottabad and Islamabad, on Friday, 11th October, 2019.

The boys enjoyed the snaky road leading from Murree to Ayubia and Nathia Gali. The young boys enjoyed the scenic beauty of both picnic spots. They took pleasure in watching the monkeys playing on the brinks of the road. The boys passed journey in gossip and music. The boys enjoyed a sumptuous lunch at Nathia Gali.

After visiting Ayubia and Nathia Gali, the caravan stayed at Harnoi Water Park, Abbottabad. The boys enjoyed bike riding, boat riding, horse riding, balloon shooting and playing in water. They stayed there till the evening, playing in water and throwing water on each other. The peace, calm and greenery of the whole picnic point impressed the boys a lot.

After spending almost three pleasant hours at Harnoi Water Park, the young Gallians reached Alpine Hotel Abbottabad. After settling down, the boys had a delicious dinner. In the morning on 12th of October, 2019, after breakfast, the caravan headed for Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Hassan Abdal. They were briefed about the Gurdwara, its history and the contributions of Sikh preachers. The boys also visited the surrounding park and listened to the legends related to fish in different sacred water pools of Panja Sahib.

By 3pm, the caravan of seven vehicles reached Giga Mall Rawalpindi. The unbeatable energy of Gallians sent them to the different floors of Giga Mall for a hang out.  The boys took pleasure in the cool and pleasant evening at the Giga Mall and enjoyed playing video games, motion ride, and edibles in the food courts including shopping for their near and dear ones.

In the evening, the students had a short stay at the Lake View Park. They enjoyed motion rides, swings, and boating. With pleasant memories of the trip, the boys reached the College at Isha.

Gallians did extremely well and produced a good result in HSSC Part 1 Examination of BISE Rawalpindi. 60 students appeared for HSSC Part-I Examination 2019. 26 students passed their examination by securing A+ Grade, 24 students got A Grade, 8 students passed in Grade B while 2 students got C Grade. Abdul Manan remained at the top by securing 91.88% marks. Muhammad Umar Tariq remained second by obtaining 91.15% marks while Ahmed Sohail secured third position by obtaining 89.50% marks.

The result shows the hard work of the students, devotion of the faculty, proper guidance and visionary leadership of the senior management. We hope and pray that our students continue to produce excellent results in the years to come.

159^th Founders’ Day was held in Jamali Stadium on Thursday, 26^th September, 2019. The young exhibited an excellent show of their organizational skills and coordination. Their wonderful show received applause from the spectators who enjoyed every minute of the event for which the students had prepared enthusiastically.

The chief guest was Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, the Governor of Punjab and Chairman Board of Governors, Lawrence College. A large number of guests, Old Gallians and parents attended the function. March Past, PT Display and prize distribution were the main features of the Founders’ Day proceedings.

The Principal Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd) presented the Annual Report of the College. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest and other guests for gracing the occasion. He thanked the chief guest for his continuous support in all the matters related to improvement and progress at the College. He told the guests and parents that the College administration is doing its best for grooming and training of the students. Highlighting the performance of Gallians in academics, the Principal said, “I am pleased to inform you that this year we have achieved excellent results in the Secondary School Certificate Examinations. In the Matric Examination 44 boys appeared and pass percentage was 100% with 36 boys getting A+ grade and 8 A grade.  In Matric Part I Examination, 49 boys appeared and pass percentage was 100% with 48 boys getting A+ grade and 1 A grade. In the Intermediate Examination Part-II 62 boys appeared and the pass percentage was 99%.  29 boys attained A+ grade, 20 A and 12 got B grade while Muhammad Moiez got 2^nd position in Rawalpindi Board Pre-Medical group. 12 students appeared in the ‘O’ Level Exam of Cambridge University with 100% pass percentage. Syed Mustafa Kamal scored straight 9 A­­­­­­­^s. These results are one of the best ever attained by Lawrence College.”

The Chief Guest congratulated all the houses for their commendable performance. He specially congratulated Wightwick House for being the champion house and Walker House for being the Runners Up. He particularly mentioned that it was heartening to know that the Principal has restored the basic values and integrity of Lawrence College and is giving so much importance to academic excellence, character building, instilling moral values and ensuring merit in all activities.   He said it was encouraging to know from the Principal’s speech that Lawrence College has produced excellent results in Matric Part-I, Part-II, O-Level and Inter Part-II Exams for the year 2019. He appreciated the efforts of the management, faculty and Gallians for the significant development in all spheres of life. In the end, the chief guest thanked the Principal Brig (Retd) Mujahid Alam and his staff for inviting him as Chief Guest.

Young Gallians of Junior School celebrated Literacy Day in a special morning assembly. The purpose to organize assembly on this topic was to educate the students what is the difference between a literate and an illiterate person and why this day should be celebrated world widely.

Samiullah Jan Panhwar conducted the assembly. Abu Obaida and Hammad Amjad started the assembly with the recitation and translation of Surah Al-Alaq. For hadith of the day, M. Zubair Khan was called on the stage. Aoun Ayyaz was called for Gallian Code of Honour. Kumail Abbas talked about the importance of Literacy Day in his speech. A video was shown which highlighted the theme. Some quotes related to the topic were shared by the boys. Abdullah Waqar sang a song in his soothing voice and it became the voice of souls when all the young Gallians of Junior School joined him. The message of the day was delivered by Muhammad.  Ms. Ishrat Abbasi and Ms. Samina Sultan gave annotation at the end of the assembly.

Junior School organized a special assembly on the theme of friendship. The purpose was to make the boys understand that a friend is someone with whom you feel comfortable and can easily share your thoughts and feelings. A true friend loves you unconditionally, understands you, but never judges you and always tries to support you.

The assembly was conducted by Dawood Anwar. It was as usual started with the name of Allah. Abdul Wasay and Abdul Nafay were called out for recitation and translation of few verses of Holy Quran. Mir M. Khan was invited for hadith of the day. Haram Jamsheed shared some wonderful information about friendship. The students presented a short but meaningful presentation. Some quotes on friendship were also shared by the boys. Haris Hayat came on the stage for message of the day. At the end, Headmistress of Junior School, Mrs. Naheed Nadeem threw light on importance of friendship.

Defence of Pakistan Day was celebrated at Lawrence with traditional fervour and enthusiasm. Students and faculty of the three schools assembled at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada in the morning of 6th of September. Principal LCGG was the chief guest of the ceremony. He, on his own behalf, on behalf of the faculty and Gallians, laid wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada. Naara-e-Pakistan was raised as an expression of love for our sweet homeland.After the wreath-laying, Talha from Class IX recited some verses from the Holy Quran which were translated by Abdul Nafay from Class VIII.

The Principal, in his speech. said,“This day has great importance in our lives and we observe it nationally to pay homage and respect to all the Shuhada of Pakistan, whether they were army personnel, security agencies. civilians or policemen, who laid their lives in defence of their motherland. All of them are equally honourable and respectable for us.We must remember them and we must remember their sacrifice. They gave their lives for defence of the motherland. They gave their lives so that all of us could lead an independent, honourable and respectable life. Many of the shuhadawho gave their lives in East Pakistan, their bodies never came to their families. They are buried there and they are always remembered. We must also remember 14 Gallian shuhada whose names are inscribed here. We must remember that these shuhada did not give their lives as Punjabis, Sindhis, Pathans or Baluchis. They didn’t give their lives as Shias, Sunnis, BrailvisorDeobandis. They gave their lives as Pakistanis.I deliberately use the word Pakistani as one of these names is of Wing Commander Mervyn E.Middlecoat who was given Sitara-e-Jurat in 1965 and again in 1971. Middlecoat was a Christian but he was a Pakistani first and foremost. On this day, we need to pledge to make our nation strong as no one respects a weak country or nation. We should pledge to sacrifice the way these shuhada sacrificed. The most important thing for us is that we need introspection. We need to overcome our individual and collective weaknesses and have to strengthen ourselves with the power of knowledge.This Defence Day is significant asour Kashmiri brethren are passing through a great turmoil due to the atrocities of the Indian Government. The Indian Army is exercising all the cruel tactics that they can but I have staunch faith and firm belief that Kashmir will be free from this cruel occupation one day.I want all of you to keep it in mind that we need to fully support Kashmiris in their struggle till they win freedom. They have given great sacrifices. They are doing whatever they can do in their capacity. The courage and valour that the Kashmiri nation has shown is an example for us and the world.On this day, when we are remembering our shuhada and are praying for them, we should also remember Kashmiris alsoand should pray for them.”

Du’a for the protection and prosperity of Pakistan was offered by Hafiz Ata-ur-Rehman, Khateeb Senior School. The ceremony concluded with national anthem.

Assembly on Independence Day was specially organized by the boys of Junior School. The whole essence of their assembly was that independence is truly no lesser than a great blessing and we can freely feel a sense of independence and freedom while breathing under the fresh air. We all stand protected because of this independence. And main theme of the assembly was to shed some light over the hard work, dedication, struggles, and endeavors of our forefathers in the great cause of Independence. The efforts of Quaid, the struggles of Iqbal, the preaching of Sir Syed, and the efforts of thousands of Muslim freedom fighters from all walks of life can never ever be ignored.

M.Huusain Virk conducted the assembly. Few verses from Holy Book helped the students to start their assembly, after the recitation and translation, Jawad Akbar threw light on the importance of Independence Day and also struggle of our forefather in his speech. A video on struggle of Muslims was shown how and in which condition they had reached in Pakistan. Some very famous quotes on Independence Day were shared by the boys. And at the end motivated and elated words by Ma’am Naheed Nadeem, Headmistress of Junior School and slogan of Pakistan Zindabad from everyone in the venue, made the assembly spell bounded.

Muhammad Moiez brings laurels to the College with his outstanding performance in the HSSC Part-II Examination of BISE Rawalpindi, 2019. He got second position in Rawalpindi Board and stood first in the College by scoring 1023/1100 marks while Waseem Sajjad with 1016 and Asghar Khan with 1014 marks got second and third positions respectively. 62 students appeared in the examination. 29 students passed the examination with A⁺ Grade, 20 students got A Grade while 12 students secured B Grade

The outstanding performance is the outcome of the constant supervision and guidance of the senior management, devoted efforts of the teachers and hard work of the students. The Principal commended Headmaster, faculty and students of Senior School for producing such an extraordinary result and gradual rise in the benchmarks as it is overall the best result in the past five years.

Responding to a call for blood donation by Red Crescent Society of Pakistan, the senior students and faculty members generously donated blood that will help save lives. A team of para medical staff and doctors supervised the blood extraction after complete medical examination and screening of all blood samples. Our college medical officer Mr Qamar uz Zaman coordinated with the Red Crescent staff. 64 students and 31 faculty members donated blood.

The Principal, ever ready to cooperate in execution of such welfare projects and acts of kindness, not only facilitated the Red Crescent team for blood camp but highly appreciated the spirit of donors.

The outstanding performance of Gallians in SSC Part-I Examination 2019 has made everybody, associated with LCGG, feel pride in the students and institution itself.

49 students appeared in the examination. 48 out of them passed examination with A+ Grade while one student passed with A Grade. Korush Ahmed stood first by scoring 498/505 marks. Nouraiz Masood remained second by scoring 474/495 while Raza Ali Khan got third position with 482/505 marks.

The excellent result of the class reflects the hard work by the students, consistent efforts of the teachers, vigilant supervision of the housemasters and clear policies of the senior management.

Students of Class VII visited Special Education Centre and Community School Murree, on 6th of August 2019, with the purpose to create awareness for green Pakistan. There were two groups with fifteen students and four gardeners. Each group was led by a teacher. One group visited Community School, Lawrence College and the other group visited Special Education Centre, Murree.

It was a fruitful activity that really made us think that there is a lot we can do for those special and less privileged children. The students of class VII were excited too. Before leaving the College for plantation, there was a discussion on importance of plantation. The students shared this valuable information with the special children. The students came back with a sense of achievement, satisfaction and pleasure.

On August 3, 2019, Mr. Daud Khan, an old Gallian and a student of civil engineering at UET Taxila, talked to the boys on ‘Classroom Ethics’.

He shared his views and personal experiences of staying at LCGG. He spoke about classroom ethics, commitment of a student, classroom setting, encouraging discussion, teaching methodologies, marking of notebooks and timely feedback by the teachers, including building a question-based environment in the classroom. He also talked about cleanliness, discipline and other related areas. He concluded his presentation with an interesting question-answer session.

Mr. Imtiaz Akhtar Ranjha, the Headmaster Prep School, appreciated the matter, style , delivery and use of ICT by the speaker.

In a simple but dignified ceremony, the Principal, Brig. Mujahid Alam (Retd), unveiled the plaque of the new block of Walker House, Senior School on 1^st of August, 2019. The event was attended by the heads of the schools, DoS, housemasters, Walker House staff, Admin Staff and Walkerites. At the outset of the ceremony, the Principal unveiled the plaque. It was followed by dua by Hafiz Ata-ur-Rehman, Khateeb Senior School Mosque. After dua, everybody moved to the new common room. Abdul Aziz from Class X recited some verses from the Holy Quran translated by Salman Javed Malik from Class IX.

The Deputy Headboy, Wisaal Akbar Khan, welcomed all the guests to be a part of the inauguration ceremony. He said that it was a historical occasion as a long-awaited need was being materialized. After construction of Walker House, 54 years back in 1965, it was the first addition of any boarding unit in the Senior School. It will help accommodate a reasonable number of students in a comfortable manner. He thanked the Principal for approving that project and materializing it ensuring quality construction as the dream would not have been possible but with Principal’s vision of providing every possible facility to the young Gallians. He also mentioned that the new prep hall, common room and basketball court would have a refreshing impact on their minds and bodies. He also thanked the Vice Principal and Headmaster Senior School for his continuous guidance and support.

The Principal, talking to the gathering, expressed his pleasure and congratulated Walkerites and staff of Walker House on addition of a new block to their house that is going to help them have improved boarding facilities. He commended the efforts of the College administrative staff and contractor of the building for raising a solid structure that would last for long. He said that he was always ready and happy to provide Gallians with state-of-the-art facilities. He advised them to ensure immaculate cleanliness and maintenance of the new building.

The LCGG Library, equipped with a variety of books to enlighten the young souls, displays various aspects of the history of Pakistan movement and the College. The Library opens up with a variety of disciplines to quench one’s thirst of knowledge. 

As you enter the Library, a sense of patriotism and national spirit prevails on seeing the pictures of the gallant Gallians who sacrificed their lives for their motherland, on the right wall, as the people who really made history are the martyrs of any nation. The purpose of displaying the pictures of these Shuhada is to cherish the memories of valiant sons of GG and present them as a motivation and inspiration for young Gallians.

A slight tilt of the head to the left side brings into focus the catchy pictorial display of towering personalities of the Pakistan movement, along with a synopsis of their services for creation of a separate country for the Muslims of the Subcontinent as no nation can progress without knowing the history.

A special assembly was held in the Senior School on 26^th July, 2019 to honour and appreciate the students for producing record-breaking result in SSC Part-II Examination, 2019.

Principal Lawrence College was the chief guest. The ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Muhammad Subhan and translation by Sher Ali from Class XI. The Principal shook hands with the high achievers and the teachers of SSC Class. Top six students were awarded cash prize under Raja Zahur Khan Academic Excellence Award along with certificates and Principal’s Honour Badges. Thirty-seven high achievers in academics, who got A+ grade, were awarded Principal’s Honour Badges.

The Principal, in his speech, commended the students who had scored high grades with their hard work and honest genuine efforts. He advised the students to remain focused on studies and follow the College discipline in letter and spirit. He also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Vice Principal and Headmaster Senior School Mr. M Arshad Iqbal Chaudhary, Deputy Headmaster Mr. M Ishaque Khan, housemasters and teachers without whose hard work this excellent result would not have been possible.

A team of NAB (National Accountability Bureau) officials comprising one Additional Director and two Deputy Directors visited Lawrence College on 16^th of July, 2019. The purpose of their visit has been to create awareness among the students about the functions of NAB and the responsibilities of citizens for prevention of corruption.

Ms. Julia Barkat, Deputy Director NAB, in her presentation introduced NAB, defined corruption and discussed different forms of corruption. She also dilated upon the methods and defined scales of corruption as Petty Corruption, Middle Level Corruption and Grand Corruption.

After presentation of Ms. Julia Barkat, Additional Director NAB Mr. Aamir Shahid discussed the causes of corruption, its impact on economic development, NAB’s operational methodology and its three-pronged strategy of awareness, prevention and enforcement. Talking to the students about their responsibilities as citizens, he discussed the Dos and Don’ts that would help achieve the goal of corruption free Pakistan.

In the question-answer session, the students asked witty questions which were answered by Mr. Amir Shahid in detail.

Our students have, once again, proved their mettle by showing marvellous results in SSC Part-II Examination of BISE Rawalpindi 2019. 44 students appeared for the examination. 36 students passed their examination by securing A+ Grade while 8 students got A Grade. Tashfeen Bin Ahmed stood first by securing 1057 marks. Mian Hassan Yar Mohal remained second by obtaining 1048 marks while Muhammad Usama Tahir secured third position by obtaining 1046 marks.

This excellent performance depicts the consistent struggle of our students, hard work of the teachers and commitment of the senior management.

The Annual Sports Day was held on July 11, 2019 in the true spirit of sportsmanship, wherein students enthusiastically participated in different events. The function was attended by parents of the students and other guests from different walks of life. Brig Muhammad Asmat Baig Humaiyun (Retd), an illustrious old Gallian, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Young athletes of the three schools put up a spectacular show in athletics, gymnastics, martial arts and archery. They received a big round of applause from the spectators. After the athletics competition, the chief guest, accompanied by the Principal, gave away the prizes. Wightwick House won Raza Shah Shaheed Trophy for the best house in athletics while Walker House won the Marching Cup. Rafiullah Achakzai was declared the best athlete.

The Principal, in his address on the occasion, thanked the chief guest, parents and other guests for sparing time to attend the function. He appreciated Gallians for the spirit of healthy competition and comradeship. He said that co-curricular activities have always remained a major segment of the wholesome grooming of the young Gallians at Lawrence College. Physical training and sports form an integral part of the daily routine of students.  It enables a young Gallian to develop endurance, stamina, skills, confidence and, above all, a healthy competitive spirit.  Promotion of sports culture is ensured through Inter-house sports competitions in all the three schools, where a large number of sports events like Football, Hockey, Cricket, Squash, Basketball, Athletics and Obstacle Competitions are held on a regular basis.  Additionally, sports fixtures with some sister institutions also form part of the co-curricular activities of the institution.

The Principal also acknowledged the role of the Chairman and members of the Board of Governors who are extending all out support in the smooth functioning of the College.  He also acknowledged the role of the Chairman of Executive Committee, Major General Amer Ahsan Nawaz, who is extending all out support in matters related to the College.  He thanked the Heads of the three Schools, Faculty members and Administrative Staff who are working with full dedication and interest in raising the standards of the College.  In the end, the Principal, once again, thanked the chief guest and parents for gracing the occasion.

The Chief Guest, in his address, thanked the Principal, staff and students for inviting him as the chief guest. He appreciated the excellent performance of Gallians. He congratulated Wightwick House for winning the coveted Athletics Cup for the year 2019 and Walker House for winning the Marching Cup 2019. He recalled the days when he was in Wright House. He commended the efforts of the present and past generations of great Gallians, the management and staff for achieving and maintaining high standards in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.

The ceremony culminated with National Anthem. All the guests were served with refreshments after the function.

A special assembly was organized on July 08, 2019 at Senior School to pay homage to great Abdul Sattar Edhi. Edhi is known to be among the great philanthropists of the time who spent his whole life in serving the humanity. His life was a true depiction of selflessness, generosity and humility. He served the people without any bias and prejudice as he believed no religion is greater than humanity. With the same spirit, he always preached unity and was a strong opponent of religious or social discrimination.

The Assembly started with recitation from the Holy Quran and translation by Ali Waqar and Saad Nawaz from Class VIII. Abdullah Tariq, Prefect Wightwick House, highlighted different aspects of Adul Sattar Edhi’s personality and discussed the great role that he played to comfort his fellow beings. Mr. Basharat Hussain, Head of Pakistan Studies Department, threw light upon the life of Mr. Edhi.

The Principal, at the outset of his speech, commended the organisers for organising the function in an excellent manner and appreciated the speakers for to the point and relevant speeches. He said, “We are here to pay tribute to one of the greatest personalities that Pakistan has had. Every year, we spend this day with respect and gratitude to Allah Almighty that he gave the Country a personality like Abdul Sattar Edhi. Mr. Edhi was following the footsteps of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). Islam is not just the prayers, but service to humanity is one of the most important aspects of a Muslim’s life.” He also recalled his memories of his meetings with Mr. Edhi long time back when he was serving in Karachi. He said that his simplicity and caring attitude were the most important features of his life. In the end, he advised them to always take active part in the welfare activities as that is the real way to please Allah.

Abdul Sattar Edhi, the Richest Poor Man of the World, served with the aim ‘Humanity is my religion’. In his social work, he never ever thought of creed, caste, religion, language, colour or any other bias. This man of action, who was born on 1^st January, 1928, met his Lord on 8^th of July, 2016. He also donated his eyes. He was called ‘Baba-e-Khidmat’ and ‘Angel of Mercy’. He received many national and international awards for dedicating his life for sick-humanity. He is the beacon of light for other generations to come.

Abdul Sattar Edhi was paid homage by the Gallians of Prep School on 8^th of July, 2019, in a special morning assembly. After recitation and translation, Afaq Hussain and Saad Amjad of Grade-VII made moving speeches on Edhi in English and Urdu respectively.

The speakers shared their thoughts on life and works of Edhi. They talked about mini-ambulance and air ambulance services, old homes and orphanage centres, dispensaries and hospitals, rehabilitation centres, centres for missing persons, graveyard and morgue services along with centres for animals. It’s worth mentioning here that Edhi was the guardian of more than 20,000 children at the time of his death. Edhi Foundation provides emergency services in different countries of the world too.

Mr. Imtiaz Akhtar Ranjha, Headmaster Prep School, advised the Gallians to take active part in social work and follow Edhi’s footprints in letter and spirit.

Abdul Sattar Edhi  was Pakistani philanthropist, ascetic, and humanitarian who founded the Edhi Foundation, which runs the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network, along with homeless shelters, animal shelter, rehabilitation centres, and orphanages across Pakistan. He was the man who grows light of hope in the barren hearts.

On 8^th July, 2019 we observed Edhi Day to remember Abdul Sattar Edhi’s countless efforts to serve humanity. The special assembly was beautifully and gracefully conducted by Balaj Hussain. It was started in the name of Allah. Abdullah Tahseen and Abdul Wahab were invited for recitation and translation from the Holy Quran. Muhammad Bilawal Hussnain threw light on the life of the angel of mercy Abdul Sattar Edhi. Gallians also shared some sayings of the pride of humanity, Abdul Sattar Edhi. Jawad Akbar recited a poem in his unique style and melodious voice. A video was shown to the boys to give them a clear picture on the life of Abdul Sattar Edhi. Headmistress Junior School Mrs Naheed Nadeem shared her thoughts about how we can follow his footprints to serve the humanity.

The ceremony ended with a beautiful song about humanity.

Lawrence College under the dynamic leadership of Brig. Mujahid Alam (Retd) has always encouraged students’ oriented activities. Apart from academics, he initiated a number of events keeping in view the personality development of students leading them to holistic personality. The need for counseling and guidance has been felt immensely for the last few years in the wake of ongoing educational and professional trends nationally and internationally. 

To address this requirement, an exclusive counseling and guidance cell is operational in campus.  On July 1^st, Monday the department organized the first ‘Career and Education Expo’ not only for Gallians but also schools and colleges from and around Murree. This one day event will be the first of its kind in the city. To make it beneficial and target oriented, a number of organizations were invited.

The event proved really beneficial for not only the Gallians but also for the students of other colleges of Murree. The guest institutions included, Government Degree College for Girls, Government College for Girls Phagwari, and Government College of Commerce, Military College Murree and Presentation Convent Murree. The diverse participation of universities, educational consultants and career advisors was of great importance. The event started well in time and concluded at 4:30 pm. In his concluding remarks, the principal appreciated and acknowledged  the presence and contribution of all the institutions  and organizations. He appreciated the team of organizers consisting of Mrs. Uzma Afzal (Director of Studies), Mr. Muhammad Sajjad (Lecturer, Computer Science) and Mr. Aamir Ali Asad (Lecturer, English Dept.). He felt satisfied and expressed his resolve to hold such event at Lawrence College in the long run. He also distributed participation certificates to the guests.

Farewell, more than saying goodbye, is a time to encourage and give your best wishes to near and dear ones and is an opportunity to express your emotions. With the same spirit, a farewell party and dinner was held on 30^th of June, 2019 in honour of the Intermediate 2019. Brig. (Retd) Mujahid Alam, Principal Lawrence College, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Shehzad Ahmed from Class XII conducted the function in a dignified manner. The function started with recitation from the Holy Quran and translation by Muhammad Asif and Ussayed Shakeel Abbasi from class XII respectively. After the recitation, Ahmed Sohail, Head Boy of the College, in his farewell note, counted the days they had spent with the outgoing Intermediate class. He said they were a source of motivation and inspiration for them and will be remembered forever as part of LCGG.

Former Head Boy, Oasaja Hassan shared his feelings with the audience. He recalled the days spent at Senior School. He said that it was not easy to part with this great institution and that they would always find GG close to their heart and can never forget this great institution. He further said that whatever they are today, it is because of the quality time spent in this great institution.

After speech by the Head Boy, outgoing intermediate students were awarded shields as a token of memory. On special instructions of the Principal, the students were also presented translation of Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas with best wishes and prayers for their protection and success.

Then Principal, in his speech, wished the best of luck to the students for their better future. He also expressed his hope that students will continue giving their best to the nation. He advised them to reflect at the end of every day and take stock of what good they have done. He advised them to leave no opportunity to help the poor and needy in whatever way they can. He said that all the students will always be welcomed whenever they find time to visit their alma mater.

The senior management of College showed great concern for staff’s children with special needs. On instructions of the Principal, data of such children and their parents was collected after which a session in this regard was held on Thursday, 27^th of June with the Principal, RMO, DoS, HMPS and HMJS. The meeting was attended by 24 children and their parents. The purpose of the session was to know the nature of each child’s problems, whether mental or physical and also their subsequent needs. The parents shared details regarding problems, treatment and medication of their children. The RMO recorded all their details in order to bring to surface the particular needs of each child according to his/her impairment.

The Principal assured the parents of maximum support and assistance. He showed great concern whether the children with special needs are being taken care of and what College management could do to facilitate these special beings. He advised the concerned persons to make arrangements for provision of needs like hearing aids, treatment for eyesight, articles of games and sports, and necessary equipment recommended by the RMO. At the end of the session, all the children were given blessing bags by the Principal. All the attendees were served with refreshments. All the parents greatly appreciated the meeting and the concern of the senior management for their special children.

Providing a congenial environment to the pupils, where they could acquire knowledge and receive training without having any tension, is one of the priorities of any educational institution. At Lawrence College, we try our level best to make the students feel at home, so that their creative potentials are exploited for maximum output. They learn, play and grow together.

Welcoming the new students and new classes has become a tradition at LC.  In this regard a welcome party was arranged for Class XI on 24^th of June, 2019. The function started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Ehtisham Ahmad.

Muhammad Atif, a new entrant, expressed his thanks for such a warm welcome. He thanked his seniors for being cooperative and helping them settling down. Makhdoom Haseeb from Class XI also shared his feelings on the occasion. He said they were glad on being among senior boys of the School in Class XI. He also thanked the management and teachers for their mental, intellectual and overall personality grooming.

The Principal welcomed the class, specially the newly admitted students. He said that they should have no worry or fear at all and should remain focused on their goals. He advised them to excel through the strength of their character. The Principal thanked Saad Sakhawat for organising and conducting a simple but graceful function in a dignified manner. He appreciated Muhammad Atif and Makhdoom Haseeb for their excellent remarks and expressed his hope that other students will also strive for significant improvement in their communication skills.  He assured them of his full support and that of the faculty. This was followed by a scrumptious refreshments for everyone.

In a simple and dignified ceremony, the Prefectorial Board 2019-20 took oath on 24 June, 2019. Like every year, the process of Prefects selection remained an exciting and most awaited activity of the Senior School The prefects were selected through proper screening and evaluation of the candidates’ academic records, performance in co-curricular activities, sports and most important, their conduct followed by personal interviews with the Principal.

The ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Hanzala Ahmed and translation by Nouraiz Masood of Class VIII. After the recitation, the Vice Principal announced the Prefectorial Board 2019-20. The oath of the Headboy was administered by the Vice Principal. The Headboy administered the oath to the Deputy Headboy and Prefects.

The Principal, at the very outset of his address congratulated the newly selected Prefectoral Board of the College for the year 2019. He expressed his feelings of satisfaction and also hope for the selected members to perform their duties with integrity and sense of responsibility to contribute to GG in the most constructive and positive way. “All the members of Prefectoral Board have been selected purely on merit keeping in view their contribution in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, their discipline and conduct and their academic performance above all”, said the Principal. He assured that all the students of intermediate class are responsible to be a role model for their young juniors and have the same responsibility as that of the selected prefects. He said that the prefects are going to play a very significant role through a great deal of dignity, respect and strength of their character to make Lawrence College a better place. He advised the junior students to respect their seniors and asked the senior students to take care of the juniors as their younger brothers. The Principal stressed upon the need to always remain thankful to Allah Almighty for all the blessings that we have and should never even think of disrespecting food or wasting it any way. Talking about the community service, the Principal urged the students to always remain active in the activities related to welfare of the masses. He also advised them to remain humble in their life, avoid insolence and appreciate the strengths of others. He warned them to be aware of the negative trends on the social media and told them to use it very carefully.  

In the end, the Principal once again felicitated the Prefectorial Board and the whole Inter Class in their new responsibility. He assured them of his full support and that of the faculty in whatever way they need for making improvements in their alma mater.

Sardar Masood Khan, 27^th President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, talked to Gallians on 22^nd of June, 2019 as part of Principal’s policy to regularly invite guests speakers from different walks of life. It aims at broadening the vision and enlightenment of our students. Sardar Masood Khan joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1980 and went on to serve in various diplomatic positions. He served as the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International organisations in Geneva, Switzerland, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China between September 2008 and September 2012 and as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York, between October 2012 and February 2015. He also served as the Director General of Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad. The Principal welcomed the guest speaker and expressed his pleasure on having a personality with a long and distinguished diplomatic career.

At the outset of his brief address, Sardar Masood Khan, commended the efforts of Principal Lawrence College towards making the institution a real centre of excellence. He expressed his excitement regarding his visit to the Senior School Library where the Quaid and Iqbal galleries left a lasting impression on his memory. He told the boys that Lawrence College is matchless in grandeur and beauty in Pakistan and that they had the rare privilege of being a student here. He said that the students were at an age where they need to set their direction right and get the core values of our society in their minds. The President discussed the Kashmir issue and consistent efforts of Kashmiris and Pakistani nation in keeping the issue alive. He also shared some of his life experiences for guidance of the students.

The speech by Sardar Masood Khan was followed by a lively question-answer session in which the students asked many interesting questions which were answered by the guest speaker in a light mood.

The Principal thanked the guest speaker for sparing his time as the boys surely benefited a lot from his speech.

The firm belief that charity is the real investment with our Creator that, He has promised to return with much greater reward on the day of judgement, drives and motivates us to do even more.

Ms. Saman Ijaz, former Director of Studies LCGG, donated an amount of Rupees thirty thousand on 13th June, 2019 for welfare of the junior staff of the College. She desired this amount to be used to support their children’s education.

The Principal and staff of the College are thankful for this kind contribution. May she be blessed with long and healthy life.

Happiness doesn’t result from what we get, but from what we give. LCGG families share the values of empathy and make an effort to gel each member in acts of kindness. The Ladies Club continued its tradition of multiplying the happiness of Eid and making it sweeter for the custodian staff at LCGG. A handsome amount, contributed by the Ladies Club members, was collected to purchase 224 kg of sugar, and was distributed among 112 members of the support staff. 

Mr. Nouman Yousaf, an old Gallian, and Gallian Welfare Trust of Inter 1988, donated generously an amount of Rs. 200,000 which was disbursed among 245 junior staff members equally as Eidi. The trust has been actively involved in taking certain steps for welfare of the support staff for the past few years. It shows their love for their alma mater and the life skills they learned at GG.

LCGG always strives to keep its faculty abreast of the evolving teaching techniques. Since Mathematics is a core subject at all levels in the College, few Mathematics faculty members attended a workshop on 11th May, 2019 in Islamabad, conducted by Mr. Shad Moarif, a Harvard graduate, president CLSO Learning System, developer of Karismaths program and pioneer of Universal Design of Learning or UDL.

Principal Lawrence College, Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd), invited Mr. Shad Moarif to visit the campus to enable the whole Mathematics faculty to benefit from his rich and diverse 35 years’ experience of teaching Mathematics to children and adults internationally, through an interactive session. Mr. Shad graciously accepted to visit and a session was held on 13th May, 2019 where he shared not only the details of Karismath but also discussed in detail the pedagogical logics for maths teaching in senior classes. Teachers showed keen interest in this innovative way of teaching Mathematics catering to the individual need and pace of learners assisted by visual aids. The session proved very beneficial.

The Principal too highly appreciated the Karismath approach towards teaching Mathematics and intends to implement this at junior level in Lawrence College. Mr. Shad Moarif ensured his full support in launching Karismath program through his time to time guidance in future as well.

On Monday, 6 May, 2019, a special assembly was held in Prep School to honour the services of Aziz Jehan Begum Trust for the Blind, Kahna Nau, Lahore.

Mustafa Ahmed of Grade-VII conducted this special assembly. Azmir Hassan recited some verses of the Holy Qur’an. Saad Shahzad, Mahatir Hussain, Shahraiz Shaukat, Awais Zahoor and Nauraiz Israr of Grade- VII talked about the great contribution of aspects of Aziz Jehan Begum Trust for the Blind. The speakers appreciated the untiring efforts of Ms. Salma Kishwar who set up this great institution in 1989 to fulfill the wish of her late mother Aziz Jehan Begum. Aziz Jehan Begum lost her eyesight partially at the age of 40 and she became totally blind afterwards.

The speakers lauded the role of this Trust which is providing free education to the blind with help of the latest technology and well-equipped classrooms along with free pick and drop. They spoke on the curricular and co-curricular activities as well. Shahraiz Shaukat talked about the old students of this great school. Yousaf Saleem, who has been appointed as a civil judge, is an old student of the Trust. He is the first visually impaired judge of Pakistan. A number of other old students of this institution are serving in different departments.

The Headmaster Prep School, Mr. Imtiaz Akhtar Ranjha, shared, ‘We should take care of the special people. We should pay respect to them and we should try our level best to address their needs.’ He ended his speech by saying, ‘Our small effort has power to change the whole life of a person.’

Welfare of the staff of an organisation is one of the most important duties of the administration. At Lawrence College, this area has always been considered a priority.

The Principal, Brig. Mujahid Alam (Retd), strengthened this bond further by continuing his initiative of providing a bursary of Rs.1000 per child to the wards of the College employees in BPS 1-15. This applies to both residential and non-residential staff and will help them, at the start of the academic year, in provision of course books, uniform, etc. for their children. This year a sum of Rs. 471,000 (four hundred and seventy-one thousand Rupees) has been paid for 471 children of 139 employees. 

Another step taken this year to facilitate the staff in BPS 1-15 is that their sons studying at Lawrence College securing 80% and above marks in Annual Examination 2018 will be awarded 100% waive off in their fee along with free books and uniform. Nine students qualified for this. The scholarship winners, their proud parents, were invited to the Principal’s office on 3rd May, 2019 in presence of the three school heads and Director of Studies.

The Principal, Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd) appreciated the hard work of boys and he acknowledged the contribution of the parents in this regard. He assured his continuous support for the passionate learners.

This step will surely build confidence of these parents and strengthen the belief of all students in hard work. These welfare steps by the College administration is a clear depiction of its motto as well as its policy to bring forth empathy as the top most life skill to be inculcated in our staff and students.

On 25th April, 2019, Maulana Jahangir Mahmud, Director Society for Educational Research, visited Lawrence College with a group of eighty young Ulemas. They were warmly received by the members of the Islamic Studies Department. The visit was a part of an effort, Maulana Jahangir Mahmud had been making for the last five years across the country, through his programme YULP (Young Ulema Leadership Programme) to build a strong bridge of inter faith harmony.

Principal Brig. Mujahid Alam (Retd), in his welcome address to the young scholars in Hamid Hall, appreciated the efforts made through the YULP. He briefed the young visitors about Lawrence College, its history, traditions, academics and training programmes. He also briefed them about the focus laid on character building of Gallians through meaningful assemblies, activities, talks, daily conversation, healthy competitions and events in mosques. He told them that students from all the regions of Pakistan were living at LCGG like a family as no bias, prejudice or sectarianism is tolerated here. Special focus is laid on the religious education of students. Zohr and Maghrib prayers are compulsory for them and they are made to learn the translation of Namaz. The last sermon of the Holy Prophet (SAW) has been displayed in all the halls and libraries so that the students could learn the lessons of peace, equity and brotherhood from that sermon.

Talking to the young scholars, for their guidance, the Principal stressed on the need that morals prove as the catalyst of change and can be a source of success here and hereafter. He said that the Rasool (SAW) earned the title of Sadiq and Ameen due to his morals and character before he was bestowed with nabuwwat. The Charter of Madinah teaches harmony among the people from all religions that turned the State of Madinah into an exemplary state and model for the ages to come. We need to go for introspection instead of finding faults with others. Discussing the ethics of disagreement, he said that the difference of opinion should be constructive, not destructive. In the same context, he said that we should correct and advise others in a polite and wise manner. He advised them to be extremely careful while passing some remarks about anybody else. He also advised them to shun hatred and pride as they are the root cause of many social evils. He said that we need to present a brighter image of Islam before the World by sacrificing individual interest for national interest.

The address of the Principal was followed by a question-answer session. The young scholars raised many questions which received satisfactory answers. In the end, Maulana Jahangir Mahmud thanked the Principal and College administration for facilitating the visit. The participants were served with scrumptious tea and a delicious lunch. After enjoying a beautiful day in Murree they left the campus with unforgettable memories.

Gallians of Prep School observed Earth Day on 22nd April, 2019. The Headmaster Prep School, Mr. Imtiaz Akhtar Ranjha, was the chief guest.

After the recitation and translation of the Holy Qur’an, Mustafa Ahmed Chaudhry of Grade-VII made a moving speech highlighting different angles of the Earth Day, its importance and significance in our lives. Mr. Waqas Nawaz, Lecturer in Social Studies, shared some key areas of global warming, its causes and trouble shooting. A video with the title ‘Protect our Species’, showing different aspects of the Earth Day, was watched by the boys in the Movie Hall. The boys enjoyed the video followed by an interactive session about Earth Day anchored by Mr Waqas.  

In his brief address to the young Gallians, the Headmaster Prep School shared his views about environmental pollution along with spiritual and ethical pollution. He stressed the boys to follow the ways of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to have a successful and pollution free life. He thanked all the staff for their contribution towards observance of the Earth Day.

Art Extravaganza, which has become an annual feature of Lawrence College, was held on Thursday, 18th of April, 2019 revolving around the theme, ‘Kindness is always in Season.’ The Principal Lawrence College, Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd), was the chief guest.

Poster making, declamations both English and Urdu, solo singing, cultural dance, essay writing, calligraphy, Urdu mushaira and dough modelling competitions were held in different venues. All the fifteen participating schools and colleges took part in each activity. All these competitions were designed to make others aware of the importance of kindness, peace, cultural diversity, caring of special people, and exploring the talents of the individuals as well as groups in above mentioned areas. Basically, this effort was put to speed up the practical approach to observe Earth Day, accept cultural diversity, build a bias free society with a mixture of poetry and solo singing based on ‘Dosti’ theme.

The participating institutions included Army Burn Hall College for Girls Abbottabad, Beaconhouse School Abbottabad, Kid City High School Islamabad, Oxbridge Future Leader School Islamabad, Exploreville School Step Up Campus Rawalpindi, Bahria Foundation College, Westridge Rawalpindi, Bahria  Foundation College, Ghouri Town, Islamabad, Bahria  Foundation College, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, Government Special Education Centre Jheeka Gali, The Educators Murree, Army Public School Cliff Den Camp, Presentation Convent Murree, Army Public School Kuldanna and St. Deny’s High School Murree. 

After a sumptuous lunch, Junaid Abbasi, a visually impaired student from Government Special Education Centre Jheeka Gali, Murree, sang a beautiful song in his captivating voice and won the applause.

Principal Lawrence College Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd) gave away the prizes to the winners and position holders. Presentation Convent Murree outshone all the contestant-institutions and secured top position. Chaperones and judges of different events were given away the shields.

The Principal, in his concise speech, congratulated the position holders of all events however, he made it clear that he considered all the participants as winner because taking part in any co-curricular activity was itself an honour. He showed his utmost satisfaction at the standard which was displayed by the part-takers in the whole function. He particularly appreciated the students from Government Special Education Centre Jheeka Gali, Murree, who came and participated in the function. He further shared that we must give respect, honour and special care to these special children.

The Principal thanked all the participating institutions including all the concerned staff of Lawrence College for making the Art Extravaganza-2019, a memorable one. High tea was served at the end of Art Extravaganza.

National Highways and Motorway Police is one of those institutions which set very high standards right from its inception to provide quality services to public through courtesy, integrity and professionalism. The education department of NHMP is making every effort to educate the road users for better safety and convenience. The Mobile Education Unit of NHMP organised a seminar for the students and faculty of Lawrence College with the title ‘Driver a Saviour’ on 17^th of April, 2019. The seminar was held in Hamid Hall.

The seminar started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Attal Khan from Class VIII and its translation by Ghilman Khan from Class VIII. After the recitation, Malik Matloob Awan, SSP NHMP and Sector Commander N5 North II, in his welcome note, said that the purpose of the seminar was to sensitize the students about how what we can do to save ourselves and others on the road. He advised the students to listen to the speakers attentively and pass on the information and ideas they get to their family and relatives when they go home.

After the welcome note by the SSP Malik Matloob Awan, officers of the Mobile Education Unit, Asad-ur-Rehman and Sohail Mustafa, gave a detailed presentation about what is road safety, precautions for road safety, the basics of driving, road sense, natural calm while driving, importance of wearing helmets, importance of having a valid driving license and traffic rules, etc. They summed up these topics in a very interesting and effective manner.

After presentation by the officers of the Mobile Education Unit, Mr. Mohsin Lodhi, a seasoned trainer and entrepreneur, highlighted different aspects of road safety. He said that being on the road, we are not just driving a car, but actually we are driving life. Thus he talked about connection between driving and life. He discussed in detail the principles following which we can save our lives and that of others.

The chief guest, DIG NHMP and Zonal Commander N5, Mr. Muhammad Alam Shinwari, in his address thanked the speakers for their valuable contribution. He thanked the administration of Lawrence College for collaboration in holding the seminar. He expressed his desire that some of the Gallians would opt for specialisation in the field of road and traffic engineering.

Souvenirs were exchanged at the end of the seminar and guests were served with refreshments.

Aurangzeb Abbasi, Former Accounts Officer (1972-2013) passed away on 15th of April, 2019. The Principal, staff and students express their heartfelt condolence to the family of Mr Aurangzeb. He served Lawrence College for forty-one years with dedication and devotion. May Allah forgive him and grant him high rank in Jannah.

Mr M Rashid Ahmad, Bursar LCGG (1956-1996) passed away on 12th of April, 2019. The Principal, staff and  Gallians express their sincerest condolence to the bereaved family. He rendered forty long years meritoriously with spotless service to the institute with great devotion and zeal. May Allah bless his soul and grant him high rank in Jannah.

Children from Special School Murree visited LCGG on 5th April, 2019 in response to an invitation of spending a day full of activities tailored for these differently abled youth. Planning this visit revolved around the objective of sensitising our students and to inculcate in them the value of kindness and humility. This provided a stepping stone in generating the wave of change in our mind sets and social setup as a whole.

The activity also created a feeling of resonance among both groups of youngsters. 

Students of Special Education School were greeted by the Principal, Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd). in his office. He was overjoyed to see the excitement beaming from their faces. The Principal shared with them the details of all the facilities in the College including playgrounds, labs and auditorium, etc. He openly offered them to avail these whenever they want to. The Principal presented them tokens of love.

During their visit to the schools, the children made beautiful art frames with the help of young Gallians which will be displayed in their own campus. They enjoyed music activities in the Music Room with our music teacher, Mr. Imran Suleman. They danced, sang, clapped together and had a loads of fun.

They enjoyed IT activities in IT lab, and watched a video related to green Pakistan. They were thrilled with the sports activities too where they participated enthusiastically in races and winners were awarded with trophies.

Mr. Asim Kiyani and Mr. Fazal, along with our students, helped them in playing games thoroughly. Later they enjoyed swings and rides in games area where they were excited to see the mini zoo also.

After these activities, they had healthy refreshments and a scrumptious lunch.

The whole series of activities was conducted in the Prep School. Headmaster Prep School, Mr. Imtiaz Akhtar Ranjha, Mr. Waqas Nawaz and Ms. Uzma Afzal coordinated the event whereas the young Gallians from Prep School supported these children enthusiastically throughout their visit. LCGG team will warmly welcome these children again to be a part of our forthcoming events through showcasing their talents.

Newness or novelty has been intriguing and fascinating the man since Neanderthal times. The year 2019 Welcome Party for the fresh entrants was organized on 28^th of March. Principal Lawrence College, Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd) was the chief guest of the colourful gathering. All the faculty members of the Junior School participated in organization of the function. The highlights of the event included recitation and translation of the holy verses of Holy Quran, a welcome speech, a warm welcome performance for the new Gallians, exciting and fun oriented games which really amused the boys, poems and melodious songs by young stars, funny potato quotations with cute potato and kind witch. The newly admitted boys were presented friendship bands by their seniors and sweet and delicious goodies by the Principal.

In his speech, the Principal assured all the new boys that they will be looked after by everyone around them and encouraged them to openly share all their problems with the staff which is there to look after them round the clock. He advised them to consider this place as their second home and make new friends.

After Principal’s speech, all the worthy guests, respected faculty members and students proceeded to Prep School ground for tea.

Class VIII, including the newly admitted students, was welcomed to the Senior School on 27^th of March, 2019. The Principal, heads of the schools, faculty members of Senior School and prefects were present on the occasion.

The ceremony started with recitation from the Holy Quran and translation by Talha Abbasi and Ehtisham Ali from Class VIII. The headboy, Oasaja Hassan Zaidi, in his welcome note, advised the boys to concentrate on studies and utilize their time in the best possible way. He assured them that they would be looked after and guided by them. He told them to have no worry about their stay at the College. Yahya Khalid and Sameer Ali from Class VIII shared their feelings about their experience of early days at the Senior School. They said that the teachers and seniors had warmly welcomed them to Senior School. The teachers were treating them as their sons and the seniors treated them as their younger brothers; that’s why they feel comfortable and are learning in a free environment.

Addressing the young entrants of Class VIII, the Principal welcomed them to Senior School. He assured them that the Principal himself and everybody at Senior School is there to facilitate and guide them. He said that all of them are his sons and will be treated the same way.

The students and faculty were served with a sumptuous tea on the occasion.

On Tuesday, 26 March, 2019, Prep School welcomed the newcomers. The Principal Lawrence College graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Mustafa Chaudhry of Class VII was the stage secretary. He was supported by three comperes for different segments of the ceremony and the whole event was conducted in a dignified way. Hamza Manzar of Class VI recited a few verses from the Holy Quran translated by Muneeb Haider of Class VI. Saad Shahzad of Class VII, in his welcome speech, formally welcomed all the newcomers. He, on behalf of the Principal and Prep School, assured the newcomers of his full support in academics, co-curricular and boarding-related activities.

Ali Qadir of Class VII spoke on behalf of the newcomers. He promised, on behalf of the newcomers, to try their best to meet the standard of the College in academics and co-curricular activities. He also appreciated the buddy system which helps the new boys in settling in the hostel life.

At this stage, three newly admitted students shared their initial experiences and views on different aspects of boarding life. Samiullah of Class VI disclosed his classroom experience followed by Irtaza Hussain of Class VI who appreciated the positive role of Sports Department. Muhammad Naziat Ali, from Class VI, shared his views on buddy system which helped him a lot to adjust himself in the new stream.

Different games had been arranged for the students which filled the hall with smiles and cheers. Games were followed by ‘Dosti song.’

 The Principal, in his brief address, welcomed the newcomers with a hope that they would try their best to take active part in classroom and field activities. He appreciated the delivery, matter, style and confidence of the speakers and comperes. He also extended his sincere thanks to the Headmaster Prep School, members of the faculty and junior staff for arranging such a graceful function.

It’s not the days in life we remember, rather the moments. Following the same spirit, in a simple but graceful ceremony, the Staff Club members said goodbye to Hafiz Zafar Hayat, Head of Islamic Studies Department, who got retired after serving the College in a dignified manner for about 21 years.

Hafiz Zafar Hayat holds master’s degrees in Islamic Studies and Geology. Before joining Lawrence College, he taught for almost 13 years at Army Burn Hall College Abbottabad. During his distinguished career, he taught with great care, devotion and keenness. He was an eloquent multilingual orator and a profound scholar. His students respect and remember him for his scholarly discussions and deep insight into religious affairs.

In his talk to the gathering on the occasion, Hafiz Zafar Hayat said that it was a wonderful experience for him to be a part of Lawrence College where he had a rewarding stay. He advised his colleagues to admire any good idea shared by others.

The Principal, in his parting note, highly appreciated the commitment, honesty and uprightness shown by Hafiz Zafar Hayat. He conveyed his best wishes for the future life and family of Hafiz Zafar Hayat. 

It’s sad, but sometimes moving on with the rest of your life, starts with a goodbye.

Pakistan Day is an occasion when we recall the great contribution of our ancestors in creation of Pakistan and pledge to do our best in order to make our motherland prosperous and peaceful.

The celebrations for Pakistan Day at Lawrence College started with combined assembly in the Senior School lawn. Students and faculty from the three schools attended the assembly. The Principal hoisted the national flag. Naa’ra-e-Pakistan was raised by the students and faculty. Du’a was offered for prosperity of the country, peace and progress by Maulana Abdul Majid, lecturer Islamic Studies.

The formal function was held in Hamid Hall. Syed Wiqar Ali Shah, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Quaid-e-Azam University graced the function as the chief guest. The proceedings started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Muhammad Ali Waqar from Class VIII and translation by Ahmed Ali Qamar from Class VIII. Muhammad Uzair Baig of Class II from Junior School expressed his views about the importance of the day. It was followed by a national song by Junior School boys. Saad Amjad of Class VI from Prep School involved the whole gathering in making a pledge to be devoted and sacrifice everything for prosperity of Pakistan. After his speech, a medley was played by the Junior School students. Abdullah Tariq of Class XI from the Senior School talked about the sacrifices made during the Pakistan movement. Followed by this was a presentation titled ‘Qayaam-e-Pakistan, Tasawwar se Haqeeqat tak’ shown by Pakistan Studies Department, Senior School.

The chief guest, in his speech, dilated upon the historical development of the Ideology of Pakistan. He discussed the role of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in enlightening the Muslims of the Subcontinent by establishing educational institutions for them. It was Sir Syed who made the Muslims realise that seeking modern education was the need of the hour. After that he discussed the creation of Muslim League at the start of the Twentieth Century as the Muslims needed an organisation that would serve as a symbol of identity and would fight for their rights. He also talked about the role of other Muslim leaders in Pakistan movement. In the second part of his speech, he dilated upon some of the events that took place after the creation of Pakistan including relations with the neighbouring countries like Afghanistan and India.

The profound and informative talk by the chief guest was followed by a lively question-answer session. The students asked very pertinent and interesting questions which were answered by the chief guest in a precise and frank manner.

The Principal expressed his sincere thanks and pleasure for such a valuable talk by the chief guest. He further said that we need to recall the purpose behind celebration of the day and reflect upon our actions so that we could contribute to our nation in a positive way.

International Women’s Day is observed throughout the world to recognize the roles women are playing in every field of life. It aims at realising the need of care and affection towards the women in every society.

 A cheerful event was organised in this regard at LCGG on 8th March, 2019, for all the female staff including the junior staff and matrons as a token of appreciation to their valuable contribution. The ladies gathered over tea to celebrate Women’s Day and received chocolates and cards as a token to appreciate their sweet contribution in the upbringing of young Gallians. They shared their perspectives of womanhood and the significant part women play in society.

The Principal, Brig Mujahid Alam (Retd) also shared his thoughts and how proud he felt was to see female staff performing effectively in steering the students and the College towards a positive direction.

Dear Parents,

This is to inform you that due to severe weather conditions winter vacation is being extended for classes II – VII, IX, O-II & O-III.
The students will report back on Sunday, 10th March, 2019.

The tragic and sad news of the death of former science teacher Prep School, Syed Daud Bukhari left the students, staff and Principal deeply shocked and grieved.

Daud Bukhari joined the Prep School of Lawrence College on 2nd July, 2015 and left on 15^th August, 2017 for China for his PhD programme. He was a very talented teacher and an excellent human being. Though his stay at GG was short, but his students have a lot of fond memories about him and regard him as an outstanding teacher.

The Principal, staff and students express their sincere concern and condolence to the family of Daud Bukhari. We pray for his forgiveness and high rank in Jannah.

The English Speaking Union is an international charity which was founded on June 28, 1918 on the initiative of an international writer and journalist Sir Evelyn Wrench. During its long history, the ESU has played an important part in fostering cultural ties between public of different nationalities. Every Year, the English Speaking Union holds an international public speaking competition where bright young students of Pakistani origin participate at the national level and the winner student is sent to U.K. for participation in final round.

The English Speaking Union Islamabad Chapter held the city round of this year’s speech contest in Islamabad on 11^th February 2019 at Islamabad Model College for Women F 7/2. 17 participants from more than 12 institutions contested in the public speaking competition. Ussayed Shakeel Abbasi and Saad Sakhawat, Class XI, participated in the contest. Both the students delivered very good speeches. Ussayed Shakeel, speaking in a marvellous way, remained runner up in the contest and qualified for the national round to be held on 28^th of February, 2019. We wish him the best of luck for the next round.

Mr. Gul Muhammad Khan, old Gallian and life member of OGAP Karachi Chapter, passed away on 24th of January, 2019. Mr. Gul Muhammad joined Lawrence College in Class VI in 1935 in Dane House and left the College after Inter in 1941. He was the oldest and seniormost  Gallian till his demise. Mr. Gul Muhammad Khan served in Pakistan Navy with great distinction and was highly respected by everyone. He looked after his extended family with great care and compassion and lived a very dignified life. The Principal, faculty and Gallians express their sincere condolence to the bereaved family and friends of Mr. Gul Muhammad Khan. May Allah bless his soul in eternal peace and grant him high rank in Jannah.
